Contractor who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria over seven years was awash with cultural experiences and travels at an early age. She attended a boarding-school in London between the ages of 7 and 9 years. Her family later relocated from London and moved to Toronto, Canada. Contractor studied and became an expert in classical dancing in Toronto. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. Following a year at University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the production Pericles in the highly regarded, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the leading role. After two weeks of performances, she got positive reviews. This play was named the top production in Canada by critics. Contractor accepted the offer to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. Only eight men selected as well as four females get accepted for the 20-week course of classical theater.
