Wilson's popularity travelled to America in 2014 when she starred in Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman with a troubled background and falls in love with Noah Solloway. Wilson together with Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson won a Golden Globe as Best Actress for a Television Series-Drama in 2015. Wilson spoke to British Vogue back in 2015 told British Vogue that she loved playing characters from two different perspective. Noah believes Alison as a confident sexy version. But she sees herself differently and as someone who's timid and unattractive from the inside. Wilson added that she does think America is morally skewed and judging that everything that takes place in the show seems to be shocking. Wilson left the show which was a shock to fans. But Wilson spoke in a very vague manner about additional details. In an August 2018 interview on CBS This Morning, Wilson admitted that she had a desire to leave the show but was not permitted to discuss what the reason was. A Little Stranger More recently Wilson is now focusing on films. Wilson was a part of the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing Living in the House in 2016 and also played the mysterious PT Stella as the Sci-Fi rom com How to Talk to Girls in Parties. In order to complete the list of credits she has her upcoming film will feature the British film version of The Little Stranger. This film is a supernatural thriller based on the book written by Sarah Waters. Wilson is also executive producing this film.
